Bringing a holistic approach to garden design, Melissa's enthusiasm for highlighting the resourcefulness, resilience, and beauty of California Native Plants, will inspire your inner gardening guru, bring awareness to our interconnectedness to all living things on this earth, and highlight the therapeutic gifts that Mother Nature has to offer.

THE MORNING WILL INCLUDE
  • A presentation of the many therapeutic benefits of California Native plants enjoyed in the garden or in the wild; information on several aromatic, edible, and medicinal California Native Plants that are easy to care for in the garden and in containers; and the ethics surrounding the collection/foraging of California Native Plants, flowers, and seeds in the wild.
  • Q&A following the presentation
  • A handout to take home that includes several of the plants mentioned in the presentation, including information on dimensions, sun and water needs, as well as cultural, medicinal, and culinary uses.
  • A display of inspiring and informative resources that are available for purchase in Tree of Life Nursery's Casa la Paz gift store, including books, teas, as well as other edible delights and accessories made with California Native Plants.
  • OPTIONAL guided walking meditation following the presentation and Q&A, where you will be invited to mindfully engage your mind, your body, your breath, and your connection to Mother Nature.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
In addition to being a California Native Plants Education and Outreach Specialist, Melissa Adylia Calasanz C-IAYT is an International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) Certified Yoga Therapist, a Board Certified Tai Chi for Rehabilitation Instructor, and a Lifestyle & Movement Educator at Kaiser Permanente, piloting a Yoga Therapeutics for Chronic Back Pain Program. Melissa often incorporates the use of California Native Plants, evidence-based Therapeutic Yoga and Therapeutic Horticulture practices into the public and private yoga sessions to ease discomforts associated with stress and chronic pain.

Melissa is a Saddleback College Horticulture Science and Landscape Design Scholarship recipient, and a member of the Saddleback College Landscape Design Alumni Association.

It is Melissa's priveledge to present at Tree of Life Nursery, helping to educate and inspire fellow Californians to incorporate California Native Plants into their gardening and landscape design decision, as well as to inspire people to support their health and wellness by engaging with Mother Nature.
