Melissa is a former professional dancer, who was first introduced to the healing benefits of Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais, and other somatic arts, while participating in a Summer Dance Master Class Program in 1990.
Between 1990-1996 Melissa took as many Yoga and Pilates classes as her Dance Scholarship class schedule would allow. By 1996 she was teaching quite a few Dance Classes and Yoga classes between dance performance contracts. In 2000, she began teaching many Group Fitness, Barre, and Indoor Cycling Classes, and completed her first National Academy of Sports Medicine Personal Training Certification in 2001. It was during her time working as a personal trainer that she began working as a Therapeutic and Restorative Yoga Instructor thanks to doctor/patient referrals.
In addition to her many certifications and years of experience as a Yoga, Dance, and Fitness instructor, Melissa graduated Cum Laude, from Saint Mary's College of California's LEAP program (Liberal Education for Arts Professionals), with extensive education in Kinesiology and Human Performance, Dance Anatomy & Kinesiology, as well as Nutrition for Athletic Performance.
Melissa is so thankful to her exemplary dance educators who introduced her to so many of the healing arts at such an early stage of her dance career. She is certain that these introspective, therapeutic, healing practices, helped to keep her pain and injury free throughout her career.
Melissa Adylia Calasanz is honored to be a recurring Glendale Community College Guest Artist/Lecturer since 2013. Melissa was invited by Dance Department Chair, Dora Kranig, to lecture and lead movement workshops on The Care and Prevention of Dance Injuries; Safe Teaching Practices for Dance Educators; Teaching Dance to Older Populations; and Understanding Optimal Skeletal Alignment in Relation to Dance Education, for Dance Majors and Dance Teaching Methodology Students.
Melissa is currently piloting a 12-Week Yoga Therapeutics for Chronic Back Pain Program at Kaiser Permanente, in Downey, CA.
By introducing the benefits of Therapeutic Yoga, and its ability to create open communication with mind, breath, body, and intention, Melissa is passionate about assisting clients to “…read your Owner’s manual…”

The Holistic Approach to Mind/Body Health & Wellness
"How we tend to our garden should reflect how we'd approach the relationship with a most cherished loved one: Mindfully, with compassionate kindness, daily interest, loving respect, and patience. And the same should be said for how we approach our health and wellness."
